I can’t wait to see Michelle Malkin and her cronies at HotAir.com try to defend this:
During the October 15 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Rush Limbaugh claimed to have “once” participated in the kind of “destructive reporting and behavior” that, according to him, reporters “dish out.” Limbaugh said his target was a reporter, whose name he said he would not “mention,” who was writing “a cover story on me coming out of one of the big news magazines, and it was going to totally mischaracterize me and what I do and how I do it.” Limbaugh continued: “[W]e found out who was writing it and made a couple phone calls to the person writing it. And we said, ‘You know what? We’re going to find out where your kids go to school. We’re going to find out who you knocked up in high school. We’re going to find out what drugs you used. We’re going to find out where you go to drink and do — we’re gonna find out how you paid for your house. We’re going to do — and we’re going to do exact — and we’re going to say that, you know what? You are no different than Al Goldstein. You both masturbate.’ ”
Limbaugh then claimed: “And the guy started screaming on the phone, just went — ‘You can’t do that.’ We said, ‘Watch us.’ And it changed the tone of the story by about 60 percent, I would say, from what it was going to be. But nobody does that to these people. Nobody does it to them. And that would be so much fun.”
I’m betting that the rightwingers will not only defend it but applaud it.
Michelle Malkin is outraged over this boingboing.net post in which BoingBoing’s co-founder makes a tasteless joke about “hanging conservatives”.
The site’s co-founder, Mark Frauenfelder, doesn’t want conservatives on his site. Yesterday, he mocked a Young America’s Foundation poster of conservative authors/figures (including yours truly) and joked about hanging us:
First, he quoted the promotional blurb about the poster from the YAF site, which begins, “Hang the leaders of the Conservative Movement on the wall in your office, home, or dorm!”
Frauenfelder’s comment: “They had me with the first seven words of their pitch.”
As I’ve pointed out before, Michelle Malkin apparently has no problem with this sort of “gallows humor” when it comes from her own side of the aisle.
Here are photos of members of “Gathering of Eagles” who assaulted gold star father Carlos Arredondo in broad daylight in Washington, D.C., on September 15, 2007, throwing him to the ground and kicking him.
Account of what happened from Arredondo’s wife By Mélida Arredondo:
Carlos Arredondo, 47 year old father of two sons, arrived in the nation’s capitol on Monday, 09/10/07 to share a memorial he has made to honor for his eldest son, Alex. Carlos has visited thirty of the United States with the traveling memorial to his son Alexander. Lcpl. Alexander S. Arredondo, USMC was killed on 08/25/04. He was 20 years and 20 days old. The memorial consists of a casket, poster- size photographs of Alex when he graduated from boot camp, before his second tour in Iraq, lying in state at his wake, and a photo of Alex with his younger brother Brian.
Saturday, September 15, 2007 consisted of first a rally, a march towards the capitol and then a die-in. Carlos pulled the memorial along the march route approaching the rotunda near the capitol building. Several of the marchers requested for him to speak about the memorial where a crowd gathered around him. After finishing, several people walked with Carlos as he pulled the memorial. Several pictures of Alex dressed in his blues were attached to the display.
As Carlos passed counter protesters, one man ripped a picture of Alex from the memorial. Carlos leaped on the man to retrieve the picture. It was at that point that approximately five others all began to attack Carlos by kicking him in the head, legs, stomach and back.
It’s hard to make out what’s happening from the photos linked in the story.
But as I mentioned before, Michelle Malkin claims to have video of the incident. Here’s what she had to say about it as she live-blogged the protest on Sept. 15:
Across from Taft Park, some anti-American demonstrators waving a large, upside-down American flag and pulling a coffin with Army boots got in a scuffle with Eagles. We’ll have that video of that as well.
So where’s the video? If it’s already been posted and I missed it somehow, someone please send me a link. If it hasn’t been posted, Malkin should do so ASAP. If the incident did not occur as Arredondo’s wife recounts it, then the video should exhonerate the Eagles. If, on the other hand, Arredondo’s account is accurate, Michelle Malkin should do the right thing and release the video and publicly condemn the actions of the men who beat and kicked this Gold Star father.
Update- Emailer Brad sends some video links.
This first one shows the tail end of the incident. It’s difficult to see what’s going on during the altercation, but later in the video you can see the police wrestling Arredondo to the ground for what looks like no apparent reason:
In the second video, Chris Hill, “national director of operations” for GoE, speaks to the crowd.
Mr. Hill is clearly one of the Eagles in this photograph taken immediately after Carlos Arredondo’s alleged beating. Same hat. Same T-shirt. Same sunglasses. Obviously the same guy. Did Chris Hill take part in the alleged assault?
If you know of any other online video of the incident, please send me a link or leave in comments.
I have no sympathy for Mahmoud Ahmadinejad- a holocaust denier and all around nut case. But when did Michelle Malkin start allowing commenters to make assassination threats on her blog? (H/T to emailer Alex).

James Choate came to Washington last night from Birmingham, Ala., joining five friends on a mission to save the lives of American elementary school children.
Choate, who works in an advertising mailhouse back home, flew through scary thunderstorms to attend the Gathering of Eagles, where he and others stood wearing buttons that said “Never Trust Democrats with National Security.”
Choate said he and his friend felt compelled to come to Washington because most Americans refused to believe that “the terrorists have got people planted all over the country from Al Queda who are preparing to go on one day into many elementary schools in our country and kill our children. We have this on good authority, we have sources.”
Choate said he was disappointed to see how few people turned out to the Gathering of Eagles. “Most of the country doesn’t want to believe it, ” he said. “Everybody’s getting a false feeling of security. Every morning, I wake up and just hope another 9-11 hasn’t happened overnight.”
Choate and his friends said the poor turnout was “disturbing,” but said they nonetheless were stirred by the support of those who did attend; […]
Sheesh. Talk about unhinged. As a commenter on Fisher’s blog notes,
50 years ago, [Choate] would have been going on about Communists putting chlorine in the drinking water, or sapping our precious bodily fluids.
Michelle Malkin credits members of Free Republic (AKA “Freepers”) for first reporting the possible vandalism to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial this week.
A reader emails a reminder of what the Freepers had to say about vandalism in August, 2005, when a Texas man was arrested for driving his his pickup truck over a makeshift memorial at Camp Casey, destroying the white wooden crosses bearing names of soldiers killed in the Iraq war.
Seems to be the only person so far with the Balls to do what’s necessary.
Students Pelt Rove in “Protest”; Update: Video added; Update: Witness report; Diggers call students “heroic”
posted at 2:51 am on April 4, 2007 by Bryan
The loving, tolerant left is at it again.
WASHINGTON — White House Advisor Karl Rove was the target of a protest on the American University campus Tuesday night, NBC 4 reported.
Rove was on the campus to talk to the College Republicans, but when he got outside more than a dozen students began throwing things at him and at his car, an American University spokesperson said.
Update: Diggers are on the story, calling the students “heroic” and one commenter hoping they get the chance to murder Karl Rove.
When do we get to drag him out into the street and stone him? Oops, looks like it is already happening. This is the best thing until we can try him for treason. Rove hates america and American values. He would make serf of us all, if given the chance. He is an evil monster, a blot on the landscape, a murdering marauding maniac out to destroy over 200 years of American sacrifice and heroism. He deserves the harshest treatment and punishment that can be meted to traitors and murderers.
Is it possible to get a restraining order against anonymous blowhard commenters?
And for the record, yes, I read through the comments about Karl Rove on Huffington Post today and some of them are indeed quite sickening. No worse than the crap that flows freely and prolifically from the unhinged right, but sickening just the same. As much as we all may despise the unhinged rightwingnuts, there’s no good reason to act like them.
[…] arrest the journalist responsible and waterboard him until talks or pukes through orifices he didn’t even know he had. We’re at war. Leaking classified intel is treason. Aiding and comforting the enemy is treason. Get the leaker if he exists, then hang him next to the journalist.
[commenter] Misha I on April 3, 2007 at 11:37 PM
Whether there’s a leak or not, that journalist needs the thumbscrews in order to find out. If there isn’t one, then we should hang the journalist for providing aid and comfort to the enemy by willfully, with malice aforethought (lying pretty much guarantees that that’s the case), attempting to undermine our government in a time of war. If there is a leaker, we should hang him next to the journalist for treason as well.
[commenter] Misha I on April 3, 2007 at 11:53 PM
Of course, Michelle Malkin deleted Misha’s comments, banned him from Hot Air, unlinked him from her blogroll and made several hysterical posts exposing and denouncing his unhinged hate speech and death wishes. (No, not really).
Here’s the WaPo’s unfair and unbalanced coverage of GoE. Check out the feature photo they chose to represent the face of the Eagles. Having spent nearly 6 hours covering the event, I can tell you that the (com)Post cherry-picked one angry face out of thousands and thousands of proud, dignified, peaceful pro-victory, pro-troop participants.
But it’s notexactlyasecret that the pro-war folks’ motives were decidedly less than “proud, dignified and peaceful”. Uncle Jimbo of Blackfive, (who is frequently linked from Michelle Malkin’s blog) comes right out and admits it:
Rule number 1: Much as you would love to, much as it would give you joy and sweetness and light and milk of human kindness flowing through your veins afterwards, do not stomp a mudhole in any hippy’s ass. Sorry! I know. I know. I know that would be the most fun anybody could have! But don’t do it. Everybody will be filming this. And for some reason, I don’t know why, but for some reason in D.C. there’s an ordinance that prohibits hippy mudhole ass stomping so you’re going to have to abide by the rules… when in Rome… do what you gotta do… or don’t do what you want to do.
Michelle Malkin– just back from covering the much-hyped pro-war counterprotest in D.C. today:
While the classless Cindy Sheehan ranted profanely, the Eagles raised their voices in polite, but roaring disapproval and raised their American flags in answer to the ANSWER socialists’ Che banners and peace pennants.
And attempting to shout down the “classless” mother of a slain U.S. soldier wasn’t the only thing the pro-war marchers were up to today:
A U.S. Marine who served in Iraq yells at passing war protesters. Counter-demonstrators, who came from across the country, lined the route that antiwar marchers followed to the Pentagon. Photo Credit: By Marvin Joseph — The Washington Post Photo
They may be worried that it wouldn’t take much for some real American men to turn anti-war sheehanista pussies into stains on the sidewalk. [LINK]
Cutting to the chase here, I think it’s time for the stinky commie hippies to start being very afraid.
When I look at the lead photo in this thread, I so love seeing the vets, I could HUG every one of them and yet… they look so crammed in and corraled. I’d like to see them spreading out in fighting formation and kicking some filthy traitor butt. [LINK]
Those who refuse to support and defend a state have no claim to protection by that state. Killing an anarchist or a pacifist should not be defined as “murder” in a legalistic sense. The offense against the state, if any, should be “Using deadly weapons inside city limits,” or “Creating a traffic hazard,” or “Endangering bystanders,” or other misdemeanor.
Michelle Malkin, who last year wrote a book titled Unhinged- Exposing Liberals Gone Wild, has been strangely silent of late on the subject of unhingedness.
As I’m sure you’ve read by now, a Freeper and self-proclaimed Malkin worshipper named Chad Castagana was arrested over the weekend by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force for sending fake anthrax letters and death threats to a number of prominent liberals. What does Malkin have to say about this? Nada, that I could find.
Okay, on the one hand, I can understand why she wouldn’t comment on Castagana. This guy obviously wanted attention and would probably be thrilled if Malkin gave him a mention on her blog. It might also encourage some copycat activity from the terrorist’s fellow knuckle draggers over at Free Republic. On the other hand… can you imagine the epic shitstorm Michelle Malkin would’ve stirred up if this had been, say, a Daily Kos member, similarly targeting conservatives?
But Castagana is only the newest example in a long line of recent conservative unhingedness.
Take Paul Burgess, for instance, a former White House aide and speechwriter for President Bush. In an October 28th piece titled, “Friends, neighbors, and countrymen of the Left: I hate your lying guts“, Burgess proudly declares that he “hates” Cindy Sheehan, Harry Belafonte, Ted Turner, Howard Dean, and pretty much everyone else who disagrees with him. He closes with the following sentence, which essentially blames liberals for his own unhinged rage:
And this year I’m voting a straight Republican ticket right down to dog catcher, because I’ve had it. I’m fed up with the deranged, lying left. They’ve infected me. I’m now a hater, too.
Call #1: Hey bitch, You’re nothing but a bitch. You’re a bitch. You’re nothing but a bitch. God bless you, bitch.

And who could forget “Sock” Sokolowski, a Centerville, Ohio man who sent a death threat to liberal radio talk show host, Stephanie Miller. BRADBLOG had the scoop:
Despite the numerous clear threats in the letter, Sokolowski — who opens the letter by writing “As with Cindy Sheehan the best thing that could happen to you would be seeing some WONDERFUL activist sticking an AK-47 up your Glory Holes and sending you into eternity” — claimed several times during the phone call that he didn’t threaten Miller in the letter.
Writing that “I am a paci-fist [sic]”, Sokolowski typed “this is not a threat” before he went on to write that he hopes and prays “that someone decides you’re better off as statistics.”
“Honestly,” the letter continues, referring to both the radio host and Sheehan, who lost her son in the War on Iraq, “should I hear of either you leaving this earth prematurely I would initiate a personal celebration that would make Animal House appear to be just another quiet Sunday in church.”
Promising to to mail copies of Miller’s H&C appearance to “some WONDERFUL people,” Sokolowski threatens that “we must identify this nation’s enemies and though we keep friends close, we MUST keep our enemies even closer and you two vile bitches are just that.”
Referring to both women as “mother fuckers,” Sokolowski writes that he hopes for further exposure for both Miller and Sheehan on “TV shows…as GUARANTEED your words will someday possibly accelerate your demise.”
He concludes that he “would love to celebrate and would for days on end as I would and will when still another America HATER meets his/her maker.”
[…] I can only take so much. I’ve beaten two liberal idiots until one more hit would kill them in the last 6 years. It’s not the way I usually act, but they’re so confrontational and ignorant that I can’t help myself.

My goodness. These people sound downright irrational in their extremism. Some might even call them unhinged.
Not to worry though, as Malkin assures us in her latest book:
“The truth is that it’s conservatives themselves who blow the whistle on their bad boys and go after the real extremism on their side of the aisle.”
A man was arrested and accused of mailing threatening letters laced with white powder to Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi, David Letterman and other high-profile figures, the FBI announced Sunday.
FBI agents took Chad Conrad Castagana, 39, into custody Saturday on charges of conveying false information and sending threats via the U.S. mail, the bureau said in a statement.
Castagana, of Los Angeles, was being held in a federal detention center pending an initial court appearance Monday, when prosecutors were expected to file charges.
Authorities claim he mailed threatening letters to Pelosi, Letterman, New York Sen. Charles Schumer, Jon Stewart of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” and MSNBC host Keith Olbermann.
Some letters included phrases like “Death to Demagogues” and pictures of victims of the 2004 Asian tsunami, authorities said.
While the FBI is still trying to identify the white powder, preliminary tests revealed it does not pose a biological hazard.
The letters were sent with fictitious return addresses over the past three months to addresses in New York, New Jersey and San Francisco, officials said.
Authorities said they watched Castagana, who is unemployed, walk from his home to a public mailbox Thursday and deposit several letters. One was allegedly addressed to someone previously targeted and contained the white powder, the FBI said.
I’m about to run out the door for an appointment, so I don’t have time to hunt down the links, but I recall a number of wingnuts accusing Keith Olbermann of mailing the threatening letter to himself.
How about creating a new sci-fi anthology with none of the puerile baggage of Rod Serling, Gene Roddenberry, Rockne O’ Bannon, etc., etc. It is time to end their reign of Left-wing innuendo, their anti-American, anti-mankind cynicism and fatalism.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he sent the package to himself.
GT on September 27, 2006 at 1:51 PM
This is bull. The freak did this himself for sure. Anyone who would have actually sent him that letter … would have used the real thing instead of settling for SOAP POWDER.
This is no different than the false reports of hate crimes Michelle has written about over the last few years. It’s just another episode designed to draw attention to his show.
This could actually turn out to be the most hilarious event ever if he is found to have done this himself. He’d be finished.
Gregor on September 27, 2006 at 2:46 PM

He will either blame a rabid right-winger for this, when in all likely hood it was a Kos type trying to give their hero something to talk about, or KO did it himself… so he’d have something to talk about and maybe get an extra viewer or two (in hopes of breaking a dozen).
You’ve probably already heard the audio or read the transcript. But seeing Limbaugh on video, physically mocking Michael J. Fox while accusing him of faking his Parkinson’s symptoms is really a sight to behold. Unfreakingbelievable.
Michelle Malkin is forever yammering about so-called “unhinged” liberals and “Bush Derangement Syndrome”. Once again she should really take a good, long look at the folks on her own side of the aisle. Here’s a sample of what they have to say about U.S. Senator and former First Lady of the United States, Hillary Clinton:
Former First Lady of the 41st President of the United States of America, Bill Clinton, and a possible candidate for the 2008 Democratic nominee for President.
Undoubtedly the ugliest woman ever to grace this Earth and a fair argument for abortion rights in that respect. An emberassment to this country, and next to Michael Moore the quintessential synonym of outspoken.
The only people who really like Hillary Clinton won’t even be allowed to vote in the next election, because they are in prison.
This soundly defeats any notion that Hillary Clinton could win an election.
If Hillary Clinton was President, she’d start a war once a month.

And these examples are from just one web site.
I’ll have more on HDS and other wingnut unhingedness soon.
“The penultimate chapter of my book Unhinged was titled “Assassination chic.” I explored the popular genre of “Kill Bush” literature, talk radio rhetoric, and art on the Left devoted to fantasies about murdering President Bush and Republicans…”
Or these lovely sentiments from Malkin’s own readers (directed at UC Santa Cruz Students Against War):
You will pay for your seditious activities. It is only a matter of
time…We are retired military snipers & we are watching you…
My sincere hope is that a couple hundred of the local patriots take a
day off work for your next anarchist event, and come down to your
little shithole with some axe handles and bust your fucking heads.
I hope…one a fine young American very, very soon puts his shiny gun barrel up to your left temple and pulls the trigger. Now THAT will make America a much, much better place to live for the rest of us, you utterly disgusting piece of shit…
Misha of The Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler on the Supreme Court: “Five ropes, five robes, five trees. Some assembly required.” [7/11/06]
BC of The Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler on John Kerry: “Rope. Tree. Justice. The only three things that Qerry [sic] deserves for his ’service’.” [10/28/04]
And I guess Michelle has never seen any of these:
And then there’s Ann Coulter, who regularly advocates the violent deaths of her political opponents:
“They shot the wrong Lincoln” (in a column criticizing Lincoln Chafee)
“My only regret with Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times Building.”
“We need to execute people like (John Walker Lindh) in order to physically intimidate liberals.”
“We Need Somebody To Put Rat Poisoning In Justice Stevens’ Creme Brulee”
(discussing President Clinton): “In this recurring nightmare of a presidency, we have a national debate about whether he “did it,” even though all sentient people know he did. Otherwise there would be debates only about whether to impeach or assassinate.”
Yes, that would be the same Ann Coulter to whom Michelle paid tribute recently, and of whom Michelle has said:
“I would take the comparison to Ann Coulter as somewhat of a compliment. I have a lot of respect for Ann Coulter.”
What an idiot.
*Update* But wait! There’s more!
Radio/TV wingnut Glenn Beck admits to fantasies of strangling Michael Moore:
[Glenn] BECK: Hang on, let me just tell you what I’m thinking. I’m thinking about killing Michael Moore, and I’m wondering if I could kill him myself, or if I would need to hire somebody to do it. No, I think I could. I think he could be looking me in the eye, you know, and I could just be choking the life out — is this wrong? I stopped wearing my What Would Jesus — band — Do, and I’ve lost all sense of right and wrong now. I used to be able to say, “Yeah, I’d kill Michael Moore,” and then I’d see the little band: What Would Jesus Do? And then I’d realize, “Oh, you wouldn’t kill Michael Moore. Or at least you wouldn’t choke him to death.” And you know, well, I’m not sure.
And Rightwing blogger Mark Byron has an assassination fantasy to beat all:
The Usefulness of Civil Disobedience-Part II-The Bonhoffer[sic] Option
Note-I am NOT advocating the following fantasy episode, but it has a following in the darker parts of my mind.
WASHINGTON-January 6, 2004. A paramilitary organization calling itself the Christian Liberation Front changed the balance of power in Washington by a pair of brutal attacks this afternoon. A force estimated at about 200 CLF commandos stormed the Supreme Court building, killing 35 people, including five Supreme Court Justices. At the same time, a contingent of 1,000 CLF paramilitaries attacked the Hart Senate Office Building, where a Senate Democratic Caucus meeting was being held. Approximately 50 people were killed in the attack. Once the commandos had seized the building, they systematically killed Democratic senators from states with Republican governors. Here is a list of the 21 senators killed
Joe Lieberman was campaigning in South Carolina, and missed the assassins. The attackers turned themselves in to police, and are proudly confessing their crimes, cooperating with authorities.
I love how he lets Lieberman off the hook.
*UPDATE 9/12/06* Malkin rehashes her “Assassination Chic” post of August 31 in today’s episode of Hot Air. Watch for a hilarious quote from the always-quotable Garrison Keillor at about 2 minutes, 50 seconds in. And try not to throw up when Michelle once again openly mocks the mother of slain American soldier, Casey Sheehan.
Glenn Greenwald has a great post up at Crooks and Liars on the increasing calls for violence by rightwing bloggers, and the surprising lack of attention paid them by the media.
Several times a week, [Glenn] Reynolds promotes a right-wing blogger who currently has published on his blogsatellite photographs of the home of the NYT Publisher, along with his address, all while Reynolds routinely claims that the American media is “empowering the terrorists.” Michelle Malkin publishes hate-mongering propaganda photographs against “liberals” and the NYT that would shock George Orwell. Ben Shapiro calls for the imprisonment of Al Gore, Howard Dean, and John Kerry for sedition; Blogs for Bush urges that Joe Wilson and “others at the DNC and Kerry campaign . . . need to see the inside of a jail cell” for their attempt to “slander the President in to defeat in November of 2004; and Michael Reagan (guest host for Sean Hannity) says that Howard Dean “should be arrested and hung for treason or put in a hole until the end of the Iraq war!” And on and on and on.
Isn’t it self-evident that this rhetoric and these tactics are qualitatively different from the horrendous and Republic-threatening practice of writing e-mails in response to a newspaper columns that include bad words? Aren’t these tactics blatantly more newsworthy than the “scandal” that some liberal bloggers belong to an e-mail group where they exchange ideas? And even if one wants to posit some sort of equivalency between bad words and treason accusations accompanied by calls for hanging, hasn’t the media, at the very least, been profoundly and inexcusably remiss in neglecting to write about the latter while writing endlessly about the former?
Glenn Greenwald has the audio of his debate with David Horowitz on the Alan Colmes radio program. Michelle’s pal Horowitz came across as a ranting, raving, crazy person. The word “unhinged” comes to mind.
